The fashion house of Yves Saint Laurent was founded by designer Yves Saint Laurent and his partner Pierre Bergé in 1961, and has long been considered one of the world’s greatest fashion houses, and Saint Laurent one of the most influential of all modern designers. YSL is credited for creating some of the more memorable trends of the last 50 years (safari jackets, tuxedos for women, the beatnik style, and, um, tight pants), and for popularizing ready-to-wear in the mid-late 60s. YSL hired Hedi Slimane (1997-99) and Tom Ford (1999-2004) as Creative Directors, adding to the label’s reputation. Yves Saint Laurent died in 2008, and, in 2012, Hedi Slimane returned to YSL as Creative Director. www.ysl.com
